Tarik Cohen recently signed a three-year, $17.2 million dollar contract extension with the Chicago Bears back in September. Now, the one-time Pro Bowl running back may be taking his talents to another team in the NFC. Or not.
The Bears have been involved in trade talks for Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz and Cohen could be involved.
The former NCA&T superstar rushed for 1101 yards and nine touchdowns in his first four seasons with the Bears. His stat sheet would be much more decorated if this past season was not cut short due to an ACL injury. Cohen did pad enough of a resume in his young career to make him an enticing asset in trade rumors surrounding Wentz.
WHY A TRADE?
Carson Wentz seemed to fall off a cliff after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl in 2017. The Eagles missed the playoffs this season for the first time since winning the Lombardi trophy. Many were to blame for this disappointing season, however, Wentz’s 15 interceptions surely did not help. Now, the Eagles are looking to trade Wentz for more assets and the Chicago Bears are reportedly front runners in a deal.
The Bears seemed to have lost hope in their quarterback room led by Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky. There are two guys that both got benched for the other this season. ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Saturday afternoon that Wentz could be traded within the week with the Chicago Bears as an interested party. There is a deeper connection between the Eagles and Bears. Chicago’s quarterbacks coach, John DeFilippo, was with the Eagles during Wentz’s super bowl run. A reunion may be in the works for the two.
WHY TARIK COHEN?
This is where Tarik Cohen comes into play. The Eagles are in need of another running back to compliment Miles Sanders and Cohen could be the guy. Philadelphia television and radio reporter Natalie Engelhof claims that sources have told her that Cohen could be packaged in a deal for Carson Wentz.
Tarik Cohen quickly took to twitter late Saturday night to refute claims that he is on the trade block.
Time will only tell what the package will be for Carson Wentz and if Cohen will be included. Schefter reports that a deal is expected to get done this week with the Bears or another organization.
For right now, those Cohen no. 29 jerseys with the Bears are still current. But in the NFL it’s always one decision away from being a throwback.
