Top Five 2010s: SWAC QBs

Some talented signal-callers came through the SWAC in the 2010s. Here are the top five.

Howard completed his career as Southern’s all-time leading passer. (D. Monday)

5. Austin Howard, Southern (2014-2017)

Austin Howard stepped into the starting lineup as a freshman at Southern following in the footsteps of Dray Joseph who had just become the school’s all-time passer. All Howard would do is rewrite the Southern University record books and finish with a winning season each year as a starter.

Howard passed for 2,334 and 17 touchdowns while leading the Jaguars to a SWAC Western Division Championship and an appearance in the 2014 SWAC Title game. He would follow up his freshman season with 2,292 yards passing and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore. Howard would have his best season in 2016 as a junior where he would reach career highs in passing and passing touchdowns with 2,617 yards through the air for 29 touchdowns.

The Baton Rouge native would finish his career with 9,268 passing yards, 80 passing touchdowns, and is the all-time leading passer in school history.
