Potential HBCU Conference Realignment Proposals: CIAA/SIAC superconferences, new conference

Re-alignment is a reality in college sports. HBCUs are not immune. Here are four scenarios you could see in the near future.

Scenario C: 20/16 FB team CIAA remains from Scenario B, 15/13 team FB SIAC loses CSU & KYSU and adds EWC

  • South Carolina State and Bethune-Cookman both reclassify to Division II and rejoin the SIAC.
  • Central State (OH) and Kentucky State cut travel budgets by moving from the SIAC to the midwestern based, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).
  • Edward Waters gains all sport membership into the SIAC thus replacing Central State.
  • SIAC Olympic sports switches to a 3-division alignment based on polar members (West, East, and South). A geographic-based cross-divisional schedule will be enabled.
  • SIAC Football shifts to a 14-team structure that splits under two divisions (North and South).
  • SIAC Football will play an eight-game schedule, six divisional games.
  • SIAC Football will allot two protected cross-divisional opponents.
  • SIAC Football division champions will play in the SIAC Football Championship Game at the highest seed.
