Florida A&M University flew into Durham, North Carolina riding high after scoring the biggest upset in college basketball since 2008. Iowa State might have taken the Rattlers lightly but North Carolina Central University didn’t. The Eagles (5-10) turned a close game into a 61-45 win over FAMU (2-10) on Saturday afternoon.
The game was tied at 28 at halftime and tied at 45 with under ten minutes remaining before a game-sealing Eagles run. NCCU rattled off 16 unanswered points over the final 8:37 for the win in the MEAC opener for both teams.
Senior Jabri Blount had a game-high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double. Rod Melton Jr. led the Rattlers with 18 points.
FAMU will holdover in North Carolina to play North Carolina A&T on Monday night. The Eagles will have a week off before making a trip up north to play Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.
