It was a tough fight, but the Lady Dragons fell to top seed Florida Southern in the opening round of the D2 women’s Atlantic Regional tournament on Friday.

The Cinderella story for the Lady Dragons has come to a close. Eighth seed Lane College fell to top seed Florida Southern in the opening round of the D2 Southern Regional tournament, 89-57.

Lane held its own against the top seed in the first half. The Lady Dragons could not get on the board for the first two minutes, but ended the first quarter narrowly trailing 22-18. An 11-3 run from FSC in the final five minutes of the second quarter widened the trail to send Lane into halftime down 41-30. After the half, the show belonged to Florida Southern. Lane fell cold again in the first three minutes of the third quarter. FSC took advantage and pushed its lead to double digits, going up 63-44 at the end of the third. Florida Southern doubled Lane’s points 26 to 13 in the fourth quarter to walk into its dominant 89-57 victory.

Lane finished with three players in double figures. Alexis Harris led in scoring with 14 points, followed by 13 points from Antrice McCoy. The Lady Dragons’ season ends at 13-18 overall and with the SIAC women’s tournament crown.
