Saturday recap: HBCU Gameday Fastbreak

Everything you need to know about Saturday’s hoop action.

It was another great Saturday of HBCU Hoops and we will take you conference by conference for all of the action. Some streaks live on, some fell by the wayside and a couple of folks got dunked on!

Morgan State began its southern swing through North Carolina and the game versus N.C. A&T did not disappoint. Make sure you check out the Fastbreak for a slick jam at the Savannah State game.

Let’s flip the script and start with the ladies. Virginia Union versus Virginia State was a showdown in Richmond. We can’t wait for the rematch, but round one goes to the Lady Panthers.

Livingstone hosted the game of the day on the men’s side versus Shaw. A back and forth game that effectively ended on what might be the dunk of the week.  Check out Wali Pitt’s report in the HBCU Gameday Fastbreak to see the nastiness involved in this throwdown.

Our Tolly Carr, oh wait that’s me, predicted Texas Southern would go unbeaten in SWAC play this year. Wrong Charlie Murphy, wrong!

The media darlings on the women’s side, Grambling State University, put up another entertaining effort in an overtime win.

If it were horseshoes Fort Valley State would have been happy on Saturday afternoon, but close doesn’t count in basketball.  The Wildcats pushed Morehouse to the brink but the Maroon Tigers continue their unbeaten streak.

The Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers have cooled just a bit, dropping two games in a row in the SIAC.

The rest of the story

The “Big Four” conferences don’t tell the complete story of HBCU Hoops.  Let’s take a trip around the rest of the HBCU universe.

The HBCU Gameday Fastbreak will be back soon.  Keep your head on a swivel for a no-look pass of scores and highlights coming your way.
