Chris Paul teams up with Winston-Salem State for Epic Open Run

Winston-Salem, NC — Winston-Salem State University will present Epic Open Run on Go Hoop Day, taking place in the Donald J. Reeves Student Activity Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University on June 23, 2019, free and open to the public.

Winston-Salem State University leadership is proud to bring Epic Open Run on Go Hoop Day to the campus for the first time. Epic Open Run on Go Hoop Day will be the annual flagship event, taking place in the hometown of Go Hoop Day founder and NBA all-star; Chris Paul. The event will consist of free basketball play open to the public from 2:00pm to 6:00pm est. It is part of a nation-wide initative put together by Paul.

In March of 2019, Chris Paul saw the “Text HORNS to 71777” social media campaign, encouraging Winston-Salem State alumni to support an athletic scholarship initiative. He responded by making a significant financial pledge to support the campaign as well as the institution. As a response to Paul’s generosity, Winston-Salem State University alumnus Winston Robinson introduced the idea of utilizing the institution’s facilities to extend the goals, ideals and values of Paul’s initiative; Go Hoop Day. On June 23rd, Winston-Salem State University will host the first annual Epic Open Run on Go Hoop Day in the Donald J. Reeves Student Activities Center on campus, as the flagship event of the Paul’s Go Hoop Day.

“Epic Open Run on Go Hoop Day is the ultimate catalyst to invigorate the relationship between Winston-Salem as a city, Winston-Salem State University as an institution and the Paul family as philanthropist and champions of community,” Robinson said. “Basketball is also the great unifier. The game has no race, religion or political belief. Therefore, we will harness that power of establishing common ground, to all of the citizens of this beautiful city.”
