#8 Miles put up a good fight against #1 Nova Southeastern, but fell 80-66 in the first round of the D2 South Region Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Miles was plagued by missed shots to start the first half and trailed by 11 points with 8:37 left. A quick 14-0 run from the Golden Bears grabbed the lead to go up 20-17 with 5:16 remaining before the half. The teams tied four times in the last five minutes, but a fast-break three-pointer from NSU put Miles behind 31-30 at halftime.
The majority of regulation was out of the Golden Bears’ hands. Miles took two straight shots to take a four-point lead in the first 1:23 of the second half. NSU then scored eight straight unanswered to take a lead it would not surrender for the remainder of regulation. Miles could not get on the board for two minutes, allowing NSU to score 12 unanswered and go up 58-42 with just over ten minutes left. Miles trailed by as many as 21 points, but fought to end the game at 80-66.
Devonte Fuller led the Golden Bears with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Jelani Watson-Gayle followed with 12 points. Miles’ season ends at 21-9 overall, it’s most successful season in 25 years.
