One of the SWAC’s premier basketball programs has a new head coach. One with a history of winning as well as a controversial past.
Sean Woods is expected to be introduced as Southern’s new basketball coach on Thursday afternoon, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate. Woods will take over the position after Morris Scott presided over the team on an interim basis this past season.

Woods led Mississippi Valley State to a 17-1 record in the SWAC during the 2011-12 season and led the team to the SWAC Tournament title that season as well. He left MSVS after that season to take over as head coach at Morehead State where he compiled a 77-70 record.
Woods resigned from Morehead State after being accused of battery by two of his players during a game. Malik Maitland said Woods backhanded him in the chest and Soufiyane Diakite said Woods shoved him twice. He had previously been suspended by the school for berating one of his players and appearing to make contact with him.
He spent last season as an assistant at Stetson.
His all-time record is 127-150 in eight seasons as a head coach. The press conference is set for 1 P.M. at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
