CIAA Saturday Basketball Roundup

It’s still early but the Southern Division outside of JCSU is really struggling.

Fayetteville State 88     Valdosta State 94

Josh Bryant scored 27 points for Fayetteville State (1-3) but it wasn’t enough to hold off Valdosta State (5-0) who remains unbeaten.  Tyrone Sam led the Blazers and all scorers with 33 points.

Chowan 76     USC-Aiken 91

St. Augustine’s 56     Virginia Union 58

William Jenkins’ layup with 25 seconds remaining broke a 56-all tie and proved to be the game-winner as Virginia Union (2-4) beat St. Augustine’s (0-6) in Richmond.  Jenkins led the Panthers with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  The Falcons were without Quincy January who’s averaging 17.3 points per game but has only played in three games thus far.

Johnson C. Smith 81     West Georgia 68

JCSU (6-2) maintained a double-digit halftime lead throughout the second half in its victory over West Georgia (3-2).  Christian Kirchman had 21 points and Robert Davis had 20 for the Golden Bulls.
