The big question surrounding Grambling football a year ago was whether or not DeVante Kincade could step into the footsteps of Jonathon Williams. A year later, Kincade is chasing another Williams: Doug.
After throwing for better than 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2016, Kincade is hoping to leave his mark on the legendary program, which has produced all-time greats like James “Shack” Harris and Doug Williams.
“Them guys hold a lot of weight,” Kincade told HBCU Gameday at SWAC Media Day. “My goal is to get past them.”
Kincade led the team to an 11-1 record in 2016, ending the season with wins in the Bayou Classic, SWAC Championship Game and Celebration Bowl. As a result, his team was picked to win the SWAC West title and he was named preseason Offensive Player of The Year on Friday.
“I wanna go down as one of those quarterbacks that they say ‘well he came in one year, progressed over that one year and became one of those legendary quarterbacks. That’s always been my goal.”
So far, so good.
