NORFOLK, Va. — Howard University’s student-athletes showcased their talent in the classroom with the announcement of the MEAC’s 2017 Commissioner’s All-Academic Team on Friday.

Howard had the most selections of all 13 MEAC institutions. Of the 1,209 student-athletes selected for the All-Academic Team, the men and women of Howard accounted for 190 — or 15.7 percent — of those honored.

“We are excited and extremely proud of the achievements of our student-athletes,” said athletics director Kery Davis. “They reflect Howard’s commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the field of play.”

The conference recognized student-athletes who achieved academic success during the 2016-17 academic year. All honorees were sophomores, juniors and seniors who maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

“I am excited to congratulate the 1,209 student-athletes who maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2016-17 academic school year,” said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. “I would like to commend the administrators, athletic academic support staffs and personnel, coaches, institutions, and parents for their contributions to the academic success of these student-athletes.”
