College Football 25: The man putting HBCU football in the game

Marlu Tha Kang is making waves in the gaming community with his unique talent for modifying video games to include historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) football teams with unmatched precision. Known for his exceptional skill, Marlu has brought HBCU football to the forefront of the popular “College Football 2025” video game.

Emerging as a standout figure in 2020, during the pandemic, Marlu first gained recognition for his NBA 2K designs, incorporating HBCU teams and players into the game. His work quickly gained traction, and now he’s applying his expertise to college football, much to the delight of fans and gamers alike.

Marlu’s passion for gaming started early, but his specific interest in modding HBCU teams began with the announcement of the new college football game. His anticipation was palpable as he eagerly awaited the game’s release, ready to dive into the team builder mode and start his creative process. “When I saw the trailer a few years ago, I knew this was my chance to bring HBCUs into the game in a way that’s never been done before,” Marlu shared.

The precision and attention to detail in Marlu’s work are remarkable. He doesn’t just add teams to the game; he ensures that every aspect, from the uniforms to the player attributes, reflects the authentic HBCU experience.

“I take pride in making sure everything is as authentic as possible, from the fonts to the colors,” he said. This meticulous approach has earned him a dedicated following and recognition within the gaming and HBCU communities.

Marlu’s modifications provide HBCU fans with the opportunity to see their teams represented in a major video game, something that has been lacking in recent iterations. His work not only enhances the gaming experience but also brings much-needed visibility to HBCU athletics, celebrating the rich history and culture of these institutions.

“Seeing the reactions from athletes and coaches when they see their teams in the game is incredibly rewarding,” Marlu added.

With each project, Marlu continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in video game modification. Some of his favorite uniforms include those of Johnson C. Smith, Southern University, and Delaware State.

“The Johnson C. Smith throwbacks were a lot of fun to make because of their unique personality,” he noted.

His contributions to “College Football 2025” are more than just a hobby; they are a testament to his commitment to honoring and promoting HBCU football through innovative and immersive gaming experiences.
