HBCU South Carolina State University (SC State) will face its neighborhood SEC squad, South Carolina football, in the not-too-distant future.
South Carolina football will host SC State at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., according to FBSchedules. The website, which reports and keeps up with scheduling on the Division I level, cites the SEC school’s media guide as its source. The game is scheduled for Sept. 6, 2025.
The two schools are separated by less than one hour, with SC State being located in Orangeburg, SC while South Carolina football calls Columbia, SC home. The two programs didn’t meet until 2007 but have played three times since then. South Carolina football has claimed them all, including a 50-10 win over SC State in 2022.
SC State now has a total of four games on its docket for 2025. It is scheduled to open up the season at Wofford on Aug. 30. It was due to play former MEAC rival Florida A&M on Sept. 6, 2025, but that game will have to be rescheduled. It will play FBS USF on Sept. 20.
As for this season, SC State is scheduled to play six non-conference opponents. SC State will open up the season with three games on the road, including defending SWAC and HBCU champion Florida A&M to kick off the year, then the Bulldogs will square up with in-state opponent Citadel before a tough FCS showdown with Georgia Sourthern. Former MEAC rival North Carolina A&T will travel to Orangeburg on Sept. 28.
South Carolina will open the 2025 season in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Virginia Tech. The Gamecocks will face two other in-state foes as the Gamecocks are scheduled to host Coastal Carolina on Nov. 22 and then rival Clemson Tigers on Nov. 29.
