A 21-year old man charged in connection with the murder of a Jackson State University student revealed he is a college football player at Indiana University.
Joshua Brown, a 19-year-old student at Jones College, is charged with murder of Jaylen Burns and possessing a weapon on school property.
Jamison Kelly has been arrested as an accessory after the fact in the killing. Kelly told the judge he plays football at Indiana University. He has been denied bond.
Kelly is currently listed as a 2023 signee at IU. The Columbia, Mississippi native is a defensive back was a consensus three-star recruit per ESPN, 247Sports, and Rivals. A three-time all-state selection, he earned first-team all-state as a junior and senior.
He spent two seasons at Louisiana Tech from 2020 through 2021, logging 11 tackles in 17 games. Kelly spent the 2022 season at Jones College, starting 10 games and finishing second on the team in tackles.
Earlier this season Jones was recognized as Indiana University special teams player of the week.
Burns was shot to death at University Pointe Apartments on October 15. The Chicago native was an industrial technology major, a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and president of the C100 Chapter at Jackson State University.
