Winston-Salem State University will enter its second year without a director of athletics by re-opening its search for an AD.
WSSU Chancellor Elwood Robinson announced on May 30, 2019 that the school had not chosen a new AD depite having three candidates present themselves to the search committee as well as the students and staff in an open forum last month.

WSSU has been without a permanent AD since Dr. Tonia Walker resigned in May of 2018. Walker was recently hired as AD at Bluefield State (WV).
According to the statement by Chancellor Robinson, expressed that it is”vital”that the position be filled by someone that can motivate and inspire. Elwood Robinson also mentioned that the goal is to have the position filled by December 31, 2019.
George Knox will continue to be the Interim Athletic Director as WSSU re-opens its search.
