Howard and Coppin women advance

A long season for Florida A&M (4-25) women’s basketball came to a close on Monday with a 59-53 loss to Howard (18-12) in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament.

Sarah Edmond led the scoring for Howard with 17 points and five assists. Dy`Manee Royal was a handful for FAMU with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Howard, a no. 5 seed, advances to face no. 4 seed Norfolk State on Thursday at 2 pm.

Coppin State trys on Cinderella slipper

There was a mild upset in the opening round when no. 11 seed Coppin State defeated no. 4 seed Morgan State, 50-48. The difference came in the third quarter when Coppin outscored Morgan 19-8.

Kaiya Coleman of Coppin State led all scorers with 15 points. The Lady Eagles will get an opportunity to advance the spirit of Cinderella on Thursday against the no. 3 seed Bethune-Cookman.
