Bowie, MD- Virginia State rallied in the fourth quarter against host Bowie State and came out on top, 53-51. The Lady Trojans have earned their first division win and snapped a five-game losing streak with this road victory.

BSU (16-4, 8-3, 1-3) and VSU (8-10, 3-7, 1-3) were neck-and-neck throughout regulation. Bowie State took the first quarter with a close 12-11 lead and went into halftime up 23-18. BSU narrowly outscored VSU again 18-17 and got a seven-point lead, the largest lead of the night, in the third quarter. VSU closed out the third quarter trailing by six points.
The fourth quarter, however, belonged to Virginia State. VSU took the lead with 7:24 remaining, not giving it up until BSU took the 51-50 lead with 16 seconds left. Shaylin Washington of VSU called game with a 3-pointer with five seconds left to give the Lady Trojans the 53-51 victory. Virginia State outscored Bowie State 18-10 in the fourth quarter.

Shayln Washington and Autumn Hopson led in scoring for Virginia State with 11 points. Chrisanna Green closed it out with an 10 point, 12 rebound double-double.
Virginia State will head home to VSU Multipurpose Center and host Lincoln (12-10, 6-5, 3-1) on Saturday, February 2. Tip-off is at 2 PM.
