Another job opening in the SWAC is now closed. Arkansas-Pine Bluff has announced Cedric Thomas as its new football coach.
“My first plan of action is to get a coaching staff together,” Thomas said in a UAPB statement on Wednesday. “I’m in the process right now of making both a short and long list of coaches and just reaching out to those guys and getting that established. I will also get in the recruiting battles right away.”

Most recently Alcorn State’s defensive coordinator, Thomas replaces Monte Coleman who was let go last month after ten years as UAPB head coach.

Coming Back Home
While Thomas is a first-time head coach, he’s not new to UAPB. In fact, he’s coming home. Thomas played defensive back for UAPB, graduating in 2001.
Thomas’ previous coaching experience includes a stop Mississippi Delta Community College where he served as the defensive back coach and defensive coordinator, and a stint at the University of Tennessee-Martin where he served as running backs coach.
He was also part of Alcorn State’s dominance of the SWAC East division over the last several seasons, helping the team win four-straight division titles, including back-to-back SWAC titles in 2014 and 2015.
