Texas Southern clinches SWAC’s NCAA bid before championship game

Texas Southern’s return back to the NCAA Tournament has been sealed, but they’ve still got another piece of business to finish in Houston.

TxSO clinched the SWAC’s NCAA Tournament berth on Friday by beating a feisty Grambling team 62-57. It will face Alcorn State in the conference tournament championship game on Saturday as ASU pounded Southern 81-59.

But no matter the outcome, ASU will not be moving on thanks to NCAA probation.

This will be Texas Southern’s fourth-consecutive trip to the postseason and its third trip to the NCAA Tournament. TxSo participated in the NIT last season after failing to win the SWAC Tournament as a reward for winning the regular season title. They won’t need to use that method this time, however.
