NCCU opens MEAC Tournament with big win over BCU

North Carolina Central coach LeVelle Moton said after his team’s loss to rival North Carolina A&T last week that he regretted letting his team cut down the nets down after winning the MEAC regular season title.

His team played like a team ready to cut down the nets on Wednesday, beating Bethune-Cookman 95-60 in the second round of the MEAC Tournament. They will play the winner of Thursday’s Hampton vs. MDES game.

NCCU (23-9) led by as many as 25 points in the first half, taking a commanding 50-32 lead at halftime. It would only get bigger in the second half as they held BCU to just 28 points. NCCU shot 54 percent from the field for the game.

Five Eagles scored in double-figures, led by Dejuan Graf’s 18 points. Pat Cole added 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for a near-triple-double.
