Winston-Salem State pushes past Va. State in CIAA opener

Virginia State rolled into Bowman Gray Stadium looking to stay perfect on Saturday while Winston-Salem State was desparate for a win after a blowout loss to Virginia Union.

WSSU would come up with its best all-around performance so far this season, picking up a 35-14 win over VSU for its first home victory of the season.

Running back Ta’Vaughn Hurse came up big for the Rams, out gaining the vaunted Trojan running game all by himself 187-176, while backup quarterback A.J. Nocciolo threw for two touchdowns, including a 94-yarder out of the endzone to Will Walton to give the Rams a cushion they wouldn’t relinquish.
