MEAC/SWAC Challenge decided by weather

Bethune-Cookman hoped to extend the MEAC’s winning streak in its opening week showcase while Alcorn State hoped to end the SWAC’s five-year drought when the two teams met in Daytona, Florida on Sunday.

Neither happened.

After multiple weather delays caused by lightening, the game was ultimately suspended and called off. Alcorn State led 13-7 with 7:14 left in the second quarter before play stalled, but neither team will pick up a win or a loss.

// “Due to weather conditions and concern for student-athlete and spectator safety, the MEAC/SWAC Challenge has been suspended,” ESPN Events announced via Twitter. “Both schools have agreed that the game will not be resumed.”

It was a disappointing end to a game that was just finding its stride, as the two teams combined for three touchdowns in less than 30 seconds of game-time prior to the weather delays.
