Just over a month after being fired as head football coach at Grambling, Doug Williams is speaking out on the controversy surrounding his alma mater’s football program. Williams told USA Today via text that he agrees with his ex-players, who earlier Friday decided not to travel to a road game against Jackson State.

“I’m proud of them boys. They took a stance.”

The players have complained about unsanitary conditions in athletic facilities, long bus-rides, and the removal of Williams as head coach.
