Romelo Williams, Virginia State’s quarterback, emerged as the standout player, throwing for 231 yards and four touchdowns. His top target, Kevin Gayles, excelled with three touchdown catches, amassing 149 receiving yards. Two of Gayles’ scores were explosive, coming on 63 and 68 yards catches, which helped the Trojans establish an early lead and keep the pressure on Fayetteville State.

Fayetteville State struck first with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Joe Owens Jr. to Kahlil Ashley-Diarrah. However, the Broncos struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm afterward. Owens Jr. finished the game with 104 passing yards, going 11 for 20 with one touchdown and one interception. Backup quarterback Demari Daniels managed a late touchdown pass to Emanuel Ortega-Garcia, but it came too late to alter the outcome. Virginia State’s defense was relentless, recording four sacks and holding the Broncos to just 81 rushing yards on 35 attempts.

On the ground, Virginia State also made an impact, rushing for 154 yards. Jimmyll Williams contributed a rushing touchdown with 79 yards on 19 carries, while Tylique Ray added 30 yards on nine carries. The Trojans controlled the line of scrimmage, allowing Williams to find his receivers downfield effectively.
