HBCU Gameday FCS Football Poll: Week Two

With the 2024 season in full swing, the first in-season FCS HBCU football poll by HBCU Gameday has been tallied, reflecting how the top teams across the HBCU football landscape are being evaluated by fans and analysts alike. Florida A&M emerges as the early frontrunner, narrowly edging out North Carolina Central in a tightly contested vote.

1. Florida A&M (2-0) – 58 Points

Florida A&M takes the top spot with 58 points, earning high rankings from multiple voters. The Rattlers’ consistent performances and ability to compete at a high level have made them a marginal favorite at this point. 

2. North Carolina Central – 55 Points

Coming in at a close second, North Carolina Central secured 55 points after beating Alabama State in the OBC. 

3. Jackson State (0-1) – 32 Points

Jackson State continues to maintain its reputation as a force in HBCU football, landing in third with 32 points. Despite a tough loss to Louisiana-Monroe, it still has the respect of the voters.

4. Texas Southern (10) – 30 Points

Texas Southern cracks the top five with 30 points, riding high after beating rival Prairie View A&M.

5. Morgan State (1-0) – 28 Points

Morgan State earns the fifth spot with 28 points, reflecting optimism about the Bears’ potential for a strong season in the MEAC.

6. Delaware State (1-1) – 22 Points

Delaware State, bolstered by recent improvements, earns 22 points to land in the top half of the rankings. Its upward momentum is being closely watched.

7. Howard (0-1) – 21 Points

Howard comes in at seventh with 21 points following an early season thumping by Rutgers. 

8. Tennessee State (1-0) – 19 Points

Tennessee State secures the eighth spot with 19 points, showing that this program has the attention of voters and could surprise as the season unfolds.

9. South Carolina State (0-1) – 12 Points

The Bulldogs of South Carolina State round out the top nine, scoring 12 points. Despite a tough loss to Florida A&M, they remain a respected program with potential.

10. North Carolina A&T (0-1) – 10 Points

North Carolina A&T rounds out the top 10 with 10 points. Though not quite the powerhouse of past seasons, the Aggies are still a team to watch.
