Albany, GA – Albany State University Athletics proudly announces that the Golden Rams football team will participate in the Inaugural Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic. The game will take place on September 21, 2024, in Rochester, New York, marking this a significant milestone for both teams and the HBCU community. Kickoff is slated for 1 pm at the Rochester Community Sports Complex.
The Golden Rams are set to take on Central State University in a highly anticipated game, showcasing talent and tradition. This inaugural event honors the legacy of Frederick Douglass and celebrates the rich history and culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
“This is an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes and the entire Albany State community,” said Dr. Kristene Kelly, Director of Athletics. “Participating in such an event not only showcases our football team but also reinforces our commitment to excellence and tradition in HBCU athletics. It’s a perfect example of #CreatingLegacies.”
There are several events happening during the Classic, such as the Battle of the Bands 5th Quarter, which will showcase our very own Marching Rams Show Band. Tickets for the Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic are currently available for $25. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets early to ensure they don’t miss out on this historic event.
