Like many HBCU students and alumni, Jeskell Creecy, is a fashion lover.
The proud alumna of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), has become a vibrant online sensation known as ‘Sit With Skell.’ Her unique ‘Fit Checks’ at HBCU sporting events have captured widespread attention, turning her love for fashion into a celebrated and growing online presence.
Creecy’s journey to WSSU began with a high school injury that introduced her to the world of sports medicine.
“I always knew I wanted to be in the medical field,” Creecy shared. “WSSU had the only program with an exercise science program, so I had to get there.”
Her time at WSSU significantly shaped her path, immersing her in campus life and providing a solid foundation for her future endeavors.
The ‘Fit Check’ phenomenon started almost spontaneously.
“During the pandemic, I did a reel called my favorite outfit from WSSU homecoming,” Creecy recounted. “It wasn’t even titled ‘Fit Check,’ but it went viral. I didn’t expect other schools to want it, but they did.”
This viral success underscored the blend of Creecy’s innate fashion sense and her strategic use of social media to uplift and celebrate fashion.
For Creecy, HBCU sporting events are the perfect backdrop for showcasing black fashion.
“Black people have always been synonymous with fashion and clothes,” she explained. “Every HBCU is the Mecca for everything fashion, music, everything moving forward. It started with black culture, so that’s why it has to be an HBCU.”
Her ‘Fit Checks’ not only highlight individual style but also celebrate the broader cultural significance of black fashion.
Creecy’s infectious enthusiasm and dedication to her craft have solidified her as a beloved figure in the HBCU community. As she continues to expand her reach, attending various homecomings and sporting events, she remains committed to returning to WSSU, the place where her journey began.
“I just think that this year is going to be so big for ‘Fit Check,’ and I’m definitely bringing it back to Winston-Salem State,” Creecy said.
With her eyes set on future ‘Fit Checks’ at FAMU, SpelHouse, and Howard homecomings, Jeskell Creecy is poised to continue making waves in the world of fashion, one HBCU event at a time. You might want to follow her online and make sure your ‘fit is on point when she’s coming to your HBCU.
