Everyone in the basketball world is seemingly talking about Caitlin Clark and the Team USA debate – including LeVelle Moton.
The North Carolina Central men’s basketball head coach is among those who feel that WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark should be on Team USA during the 2024 Olympics. He explained why on X:
“The NBA’s brand went “GLOBAL” in 92’ with The Dream Team!! They didn’t assemble that team to win…That was a a “Business” move to introduce the WORLD to our most marketable NBA STARS! It 4ever changed the Economic landscape. IMO, WNBA should take Caitlin to grow Global Brand!”
Moton, of course, is referring to the decision to stop sending collegiate athletes to represent the United States in men’s basketball for Olympic competition and bring in the best of the NBA. That included Michael Jordan in his athletic prime as well as Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley and a host of other future Hall of Famers.
Clark became a national figure during her recently-completed college career at Iowa University, where she broke the NCAA Division I scoring record and led her team to back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024. She was picked no. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever of the WNBA earlier this year and has attracted a wealth of attention that spans beyond hardcore WNBA fans.
Do you agree with Moton? Should Caitlin Clark be added to Team USA for the Paris Olympics?
