Top HBCU talent gets USA baseball opportunity

CARY, N.C. | Jamal George, Alabama State University sophomore catcher and one of the top HBCU baseball players has received an invitation to the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp on June 25-June 29.
 
George is the second player from Montgomery, Alabama-based HBCU Alabama State University to get an invite to the USA Collegiate National Team Training Camp. He joins ASU Head Baseball Coach Jose Vazquez, who was named the manager for the 2024 USA Collegiate National Team last spring.
 
Jamal George was one of nine Hornets to hit above .300 batting average, hitting .310 with 10 doubles, nine home runs, 35 RBI, and 44 runs scored. George nabbed 10 stolen bases in 10 steal attempts while slugging .523 with a .404 on-base percentage.  In 2023, George was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American Honors.

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp will feature 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible college players for a two-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in North Carolina on June 26 and 27. USA Baseball will name the final Collegiate National Team for the International Friendship Series roster and a Summer League Tour roster, following Training Camp on June 29.
 
Both Training Camp games will be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on June 26 and 27. The first pitch of both games will be at 6:35 p.m. ET. The International Friendship Series roster will then take on Chinese Taipei in a five-game series, while the Summer League Tour roster will take on select teams from the Appalachian League and the Coastal Plain League in a four-game slate.
 
The schedule will culminate with a Fourth of July matchup between the two U.S. Collegiate National Team rosters on July 4 in Fayetteville, N.C.
