ESPN analyst, former HBCU QB recognized as rising media star

Jordan Reid

ESPN analyst and former HBCU quarterback Jordan Reid is quickly becoming a name to know in sports media.

The North Carolina Central alumnus and former assistant coach turned NFL Draft analyst was recently recognized for his impact.

Jordan Reid was recognized as a rising sports media star for 2024 by Awful Announcing last month.

Here’s what the website, which focuses heavily on sports media, had to say about Jordan Reid.

“ESPN has quietly reshuffled its NFL Draft coverage over the past few years and Jordan Reid has been one of the best additions. While he may only get limited airtime, he’s made the most of his opportunities and his online content – including seven-round mock drafts – is some of the best in the industry.”

A High Point, NC native, Reid started his HBCU football career at Winston-Salem State University where he redshirted. The school announced its intention to disengage from its attempt to move to Division I, and Reid transferred to NCCU. NCCU was in the midst of its transition to Division I as well. Reid started for the majority of his final two seasons, setting a program record for pass completion percentage.

Reid transitioned from player to coach after exhausting his eligibility in 2013, helping coach NCCU to multiple MEAC titles as an offensive assistant and a running back coach.

Eventually, though, Reid wanted more stability and decided to pursue one of his passions – sports media.  By 2020, Reid was one of the fastest-rising NFL Draft prospect evaluators, as he released a complete seven-round NFL mock draft.

A year later he joined ESPN, where he has been a fixture over recent years. His work speaks for itself, and is clearly being noticed across the business of sports media.
