HBCU quarterbacks to work Manning Passing Academy

Chris Zealous, HBCU Gameday

A pair of HBCU quarterbacks will be joining the Manning Passing Academy.

Hampton University quarterback Chris Zellous and Grambling State University quarterback Myles Crawley will both be in session as counselors. The Academy, which attracts the best football players in the nation, is scheduled for June 27-30 at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La.

For 27 years, Archie, Cooper, Peyton, and Eli Manning have developed some of the best quarterback, running back, tight end, and wide receiver talent in the nation. The Academy teaches the fundamentals of the game along with basic offensive and defensive strategies.

The Manning Passing Academy brings together some of the brightest and most talented coaches and players from the professional, college and high school ranks to teach the complexities of the game.

Named the MVP of the Brick City Classic, Zellous led Hampton to a 35-31 victory over fellow HBCU Grambling State in the 2023 season-opener. Zellous passed for 155 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 114 yards and two scores. For the season, he passed for 1,497 yards with 13 touchdowns and rushed for 559 yards and nine scores.

Zealous’ opponent at the Brick City Classic was Crawley, who participated in last season’s Manning Passing Academy. Last year he was heading into his first season as a full-time starter after transferring from rival SWAC HBCU Alabama State. He threw for 2,312 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 64 percent of his passes.
