North Carolina A&T, Tennessee State agree to home-and-home

Tennessee State and North Carolina A&T, two of the three FCS HBCU football schools that don’t play in an HBCU conference, will play a home and home series.

TSU and NCAT agreed to a contract last month that will see the two sides meet in Nashville and Greensboro in the coming years, according to a contract obtained by FBSchedules.com.

Tennessee State will host North Carolina A&T on August 30, 2025, in Nashville Tennessee. North Carolina A&T will welcome Tennessee State University to Truist Stadium on Sept. 9, 2028.

TSU will follow up the 2025 NC A&T football game with a matchup against FCS power North Dakota State on Sept. 6 of 2025. The following month it will host Howard University, who it will play this fall as a homecoming opponent in Washington, D.C. It has room for one more spot on its 2025 schedule.

North Carolina A&T, currently a member of the Coastal Athletic Association, now has four non-conference games for 2025. It will face UCF on Sept. 6 and host Furman and archrival North Carolina Central back-to-back.

Tennessee State is currently a member of the joint Big South/Ohio Valley Conference. It has faced off against North Carolina A&T 25 times in the history of the two programs. TSU currently holds the lead in the series 18-6-1, including the most recent win in the series during the 2010 Circle City Classic. However, NC A&T may have the biggest win in the series as it knocked off top-ranked Tennessee State in the 1999 Division I-AA playoffs, one of the biggest upsets in HBCU football history.

  1. I’m sure you meant to say Greensboro and not Greenville in your article because that’s where NC A&T is located.
