New England Patriots sign rookie back from HBCU champs

Terrell Jennings, FAMU

The New England Patriots have signed Terrell Jennings, a member of the defending HBCU national champions following rookie minicamp.

Jennings, a former running back at Florida A&M, signed with the New England Patriots after a solid performance at the team’s rookie minicamp.

A 6’1, 225 pound back from Duval, FL, Jennings rushed for a career-high 673 yards, averaging better than five-and-a-half yards per carry in the 2023 season. He finished with ten rushing touchdowns as he helped Florida A&M claim the SWAC title and the HBCU national title as it defeated Howard University in the Celebration Bowl.

Jennings had a solid 2022 season as he rushed for the second most yards on the team with 308 yards off 73 carries in ten games played that season, adding three scores on the ground. He also had a solid season in 2021 as he rushed for better than 500 yards and five touchdowns while averaging nearly five yards per carry. He arrived at Florida A&M as a freshman in 2019, rushing for five touchdowns. He finished his career with better than 1,700 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

Terrell Jennings wasn’t selected in the NFL Draft (only two HBCU running backs have been drafted since 1998), but he was offered a minicamp deal with the New England Patriots.

He made the most of his camp invite and the undrafted free agent signed a three-year, $2.83 million deal according to his agent.
