PHILADELPHIA — In a remarkable display of skill and determination, North Carolina A&T redshirt freshman hurdler Jason Holmes set a new standard in the NCAT men’s track and field on Saturday at Penn Relays from Franklin Field.

Holmes finished second in the college men’s 110 hurdles championship final with a time of 13.43. He finished a few ticks behind Houston’s De’Vion Wilson, who crossed the finish line at 13.38. In running 13.43, Holmes shattered the A&T men’s program record held by Rasheem Brown, who ran 13.53 during the 2022 Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship 110H preliminary round.

Jason Holmes ran a 13.43 in the 110 hurdles, breaking the NCAT program record.

With his outstanding performance, Holmes made significant moves in the rankings. He could secure a spot in the top 15 nationally, move into the top 5 in the NCAA East Region, and even claim the top spot in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). NCAT sophomore Thomas Smith also ran in Saturday’s 110H championship final, finishing seventh in 13.98. On Friday, Holmes qualified for the final with the fastest qualifying time, running 13.58. Smith had the eighth-fastest qualifying time, recording a 13.88.

Holmes recently won the North Carolina A&T Male Athlete of the Year award. He was a second-team All-American standout in the 60H during the indoor season. After winning the 60H CAA indoor championship, he will go after the 110H CAA outdoor title at Elon University, May 10-11.
