ORANGEBURG, SC —South Carolina State, Wednesday (Feb. 7th), head coach Chennis Berry announced the signing of twenty (20) football prospects to national letters of intent (NLI).
The class includes thirteen (13) transfers and seven (7) newcomers.
This year’s class hails from the Palmetto State once again, with ten (10) from South Carolina and two from Florida, four from Georgia, two from Ohio, one from Virginia and one from North Carolina.
Six defensive backs, two running backs, three defensive lineman, two offensive lineman, one tight end, four wide receivers, two quarterbacks, are the newest additions to this year’s 2024 class.
“Go Dogs! “I am excited, it’s a great day to be a Bulldog with this year’s signing class,” said Berry.
With the addition of the new recruits, Berry welcomes the return of veterans on both offense and defense this fall, led by an experienced offensive line that includes All-MEAC performers Nick Tasite (6-1, 295), Eric Brown, Jr. (6-3, 320) and Cam Johnson (6-2, 285) who will be a force upfront. On defense Aaron Smith heads the linebacker corps along with along with Octaveon Minter and Jared Kirksey on the defensive line.
“It was important that we signed the right players that were a good fit for our program,” continued Berry. “We put together a small signing class to add with the transfers we are bringing, and this is a special group of young men.”
Berry completed his coach staff earlier with the hiring of Johnathan Williams (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks), Jordan Odaffer (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers), Connor Loper (Tight Ends), Gary Howard (Defensive Line), Kevin King (Special Teams/Safeties), Michael Styles, Jr. (Cornerbacks), Demir Boldin (Wide Receivers), Rashard Alston (Running Backs), Troy Johnson (Assistant AD for Football Operations/Chief of Staff), Marcus Hicks (Director of Video and Multimedia) and retained from the previous staff David Blanchard (Defensive Tackles/Director of Player Development/Director of Alumni Relations), Na’Shan Goddard (Offensive Line) and Chris Parrott(Director of Recruiting/Academic Coordinator).
Berry noted, “I’m proud of our coaching staff and their efforts on getting the job done with our new recruits, but also their families because now they are a part of the South Carolina State University family.”
