Jackson State women pummel rival Mississippi Valley for ninth straight win

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Four student-athletes scored in double digits as the Jackson State women’s basketball team rolled past Mississippi Valley State 90-61 Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
 
JSU improved to 10-8 and 8-0 in the conference and have also won nine in a row. MVSU falls to 1-18 and 0-8 in the conference.
 
The Lady Tigers seized control in the first period and outscored the Devilettes 31-7.

Junior Dayzsha Rogan scored a game-high 19 points and went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.
 
Freshman Keshuna Luckett and Lanier High School alum finished with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. Junior Ameshya Williamsadded 13 points and grabbed six boards.
 
Senior Marneisha Hamer scored 10 points and hauled in a game-high seven rebounds.
 
As a team, JSU shot 42.3 percent from the field (33-for-78), including a sizzling 50 percent (20-for-40) from the floor in the first half.
 
JSU forced MVSU in 30 turnovers, which was promptly turned into 35 points. The Lady Tigers also scored 35 second-chance points and received 36 points from the bench.
 
The Blue & White entered as the SWAC’s top rebounding team and out-rebounded MVSU 51-31 and won the points in the paint battle 38-20.
 
JSU returns to action Monday at University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
