The MEAC outdoor track and field championships in Greensboro came to an abrupt halt on Friday due to circumstances beyond athletic competition.

North Carolina A&T sent out an alert at 1:07 PM on Friday stating that an armed gunman had fled towards the stadium after threatening a woman. Those in the area were ordered to take cover as the police looked for the suspect.

The official account provided a description of the suspect.

The campus was put on lockdown as of 1:45 PM.

This incident comes on the heels of a shooting on the campus of UNC-Charlotte earlier in the week that took the lives of two young people. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved.

HBCU Gameday will continue to monitor and update the situation.
