Prairie View A&M’s Bookman falls short at University Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala – Prairie View A&M’s University women’s track student-athlete Deonca Bookman finished second in her heat in the 400m hurdles at the World University Games Thursday in Taipei, Taiwan.

The Allen, Texas native and three-time SWAC 400m hurdles champion posted a time of 59.84, but did not advance to the finals. In the process, she bested athletes from Italy, Denmark, Algeria, Norway, Turkey and Kenya. Bookman’s time was 14th best among all athletes in the qualifying round and was a second off of her personal-best mark of 57.84.

“I am happy that I got this opportunity to compete,” said Bookman, who returns for her senior season on the Lady Panthers’ track and field team.  “It wasn’t quite the finish I was looking for, but being on this level for my first time was a great experience. I look forward to competing again in the near future.”
