The Southern University family is mourning the death of a student-athlete and an athletic trainer.
Southern freshman Annette January, a track athlete from Gary, Indiana, was killed by gunfire around 2 a.m. on Sunday at the Cottages of Baton Rouge near LSU, according to The Baton Rouge Advocate.
Lashuntae Benton, a sophomore student trainer at Southern, was also killed.
“It’s a real tragedy,” Southern AD Roman Banks said. “These students chose to do the right things, but it seems they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
