Another year, another regular season title for Texas Southern. TxSo clinched its third SWAC regular season hoops crown in four years with its impressive 96-86 win over Alabama A&M behind a stellar performance by Chris Thomas.

Thomas scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists for the Tigers. Freshman Derrick Griffin also stepped up big time with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

“This is a big win for our program,” said TSU head coach Mike Davis. “When I took the job here our AD said that there would be two goals for us to accomplish each year. We’re really excited about the direction this program is headed and this title is a collective effort of all the hard work our team has put in all season.”

Davis has had remarkable success with Texas Southern. His teams have run through the SWAC, compiling a 59-11 record over four seasons, and have made the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons. They’ll enter the SWAC Tournament as the top seed, and a favorite to clinch the conference’s automatic bid.
