It didn’t get a lot of buzz, but a major streak came to and end Monday night. North Carolina Central saw its 38-game home winning streak snapped when Howard’s James Daniel hit this running jumper to give his team a 71-69 win over NCCU.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Daniel and Howard have been flying below the radar all season, but that won’t be the case as the team preps for MEAC play. Howard is now 6-3 and Daniel, a 5’11 junior from Hampton, is the nation’s leading scorer at 28.4 points per game through nine games.
It’s the second game-winner Daniel has hit this season, the first coming against William and Mary. A 21 point per game scorer his freshman season, James has come a long way since we gave him the “Lindsay Hunter Go-To-Hell-Ball” award. He’s shooting a career-high 41.9 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from the 3-point line. He’s also averaging a career-high 3.2 assists per game, showing he can make plays for others as well as himself.
It’s been a long time since Howard took home a MEAC Championship. The year was 1992, a few years before Daniel aka J-Byrd was born. But if Monday’s win showed us anything, this Howard team has the chance to contend for the MEAC title.
