Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson donates $250,000 to JCSU scholarship fund

The Carolina Panthers are riding high and now their owner is sharing the wealth. Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has donated $250,000 to Johnson C. Smith’s President’s Gap fund to help students who would otherwise be shut out of college, the school announced on Monday.

“When it comes to paying college tuition, many families are left distressed, or have to leave their dreams behind altogether,” Richardson said in a statement. “Our hope is that this gift will help (JCSU) open doors for more families and continue to be a place that affects change in people through education.”

JCSU trustee Cameron Harris is a minority owner of the Panthers, and helped secure the gift.

JCSU’s campus is located just minutes away from Bank of America Stadium, home of the 12-0 Panthers.
