NCCU loses top defensive back, starting wide receiver for season

North Carolina Central’s trip to South Florida this weekend was very costly, especially for a game in which they were supposed to be cashing in. NCCU lost two starters, including FCS All-American Mike Jones, for the season in Saturday’s 39-14 loss to FIU.

Jones fractured his ankle in the first quarter. Khalil Stinson, a transfer from Arizona Western Junior College, fractured his hip on a punt return in the second quarter.

“This is very unfortunate for these two young men and their families,” NCCU (1-2) coach Jerry Mack said in a release. “Mike is obviously a key player for us and IW as looking forward to watching Khalil continue to go as we enter conference play. We’re sure they will be back in 2016 ready to go.”
