After months of speculation, the MEAC and SWAC have finally put their bowl game on paper. The two Division I conferences made up of historically black colleges and universities have officially agreed to send their champions to the Celebration Bowl.
The game will take place December 19 at the Georgia Dome and air on an ESPN Network.
“As part of the conference’s continued efforts in branding and increasing its exposure on a national platform, I am elated that champions from the MEAC and the SWAC will compete in a bowl game, during the most exciting time of the year for collegiate football,” MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas said.
Since first reported by HBCU Gameday in December, the Celebration Bowl has been met with mixed response, particularly from MEAC fans who want to continue to send their champion to the FCS playoffs.
