//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Roland was named South Carolina’s Mr. Football back in 2011. He caught 56 passes in three seasons at South Carolina, 26 in 2014. Roland, who was suspended several games in 2014 for unspecified reasons, announced he was leaving the program last month.
Roland’s mother, Petina Etheredge, said she’s excited about her son heading to Texas.
“He’s pretty excited,” Petina Etheredge said. “I guess he was feeling kind of depressed at the beginning, but he’s coming back to normal. He said from the beginning that he wanted to get out of South Carolina. He felt like it would give him an opportunity for a fresh start and a second chance.”
Simmons spent the past couple of seasons at Alcorn State offensive coordinator, but he’s originally from South Carolina. He played quarterback at Clemson and the Citadel from 2000-2003.
