Christmas has come early in Tallahassee. After months of speculation, FAMU has named Alex Wood as its new head coach according to Jordan Culver of the Tallahasee Democrat.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Wood served as wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator as well as interim head coach at Buffalo in 2014. He will serve as FAMU’s full-time replacement to Earl Holmes, who was fired by former AD Kellen Winslow Sr.
“I’m excited about being able to name a coach with the experience, success and qualifications of Coach Wood,” interim AD Nelson Townsend said.
He was not one of the initial eight candidates identified as a being in the running for the job by the school a few weeks ago.
Townsend has over 30 years of experience in the NFL and pro ranks, including a two-year stint at Southern in the mid-1980s and a head coaching job at James Madison from 1995-1998. His overall coaching record is 25-24.
