Reports: Norfolk State pursuing Virginia State’s Latrell Scott

By Steven J. Gaither

Less than a month after leading Virginia State to its first CIAA Title in nearly 20 years, Latrell Scott may be on his way  out. Norfolk State has reached out to Scott about its coaching vacancy, according to The Virginian-Pilot’s David Hall.

Virginia State AD Peggy Davis confirmed Scott had been contacted by NSU about its coaching vacancy. Pete Adrian retired last month after nearly a decade at NSU.

“He’s done an excellent job at Virginia State,” Davis told Hamptonroads.com.

A source tells HBCU Gameday their is a high chance of Scott landing at NSU.

Scott, a Hampton alum, has led Virginia State to consecutive CIAA Northern Divsion titles and led VSU to an upset of  Winston-Salem State on Nov. 15. VSU went on to win its first-ever Division II playoff game before bowing out in the second round.

If Scott lands at NSU, it would be his second stint as an FCS coach. Scott coached at Richmond in 2010 before resigning  following a second DWI arrest.
