Air Aggies: A&T’s Passing Game Shows Up Big Vs. FAMU For GHOE

Anyone who knows anything about North Carolina A&T knows it takes homecoming very seriously. So much so that some alumni got together and trademarked the name “G.H.O.E.” Greatest Homecoming On Earth. While you can argue whether or not that’s true, one thing you can’t argue with is the success they’ve had at homecoming under coach Rod Broadway.

Broadway won his first three homecoming games, and Saturday would be no different as A&T cruised to a 40-21 win over FAMU in front of more than 21,000 fans in Aggie Stadium.

While A&T is known as more of a running team, it was the passing combination of quarterback Kwashaun Quick and receiver Denzel Keyes that paved the way for A&T’s win. Keyes had a career day with five catches for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Quick completed 16 of his 26 pass attempts for 233 yards and no touchdowns to go along with his three TD tosses.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js FAMU actually led early in the game after its first drive ended in a touchdown pass from Damien Fleming to Lemond Buice. A&T would respond with 17 unanswered points, including Keyes first touchdown, and took a 20-14 lead into halftime.

After the fans were treated to the visiting Marching 100 as well as the hometown favorite Blue and Gold Marching Machine, things got even better in the second half after a big momentum swing thanks to a FAMU penalty.

FAMU’s DeVonte Johnson came up with a potential game-changing touchdown on a punt return early in the third quarter, but an illegal block negated the score and sent FAMU back to the A&T 35 yard line. FAMU’s drive would stall, and two plays later, Quick hooked up with Keyes for a 73 yard touchdown strike that gave A&T a 27-14 lead and pretty much killed FAMU’s comeback chances.

With the win, A&T improves to 7-2 on the season, and assumes the top spot in the MEAC with a 4-1 conference record. FAMU drops to 2-6.
