Moton, Banks Up For Multiple National Awards

Basketball season may be over for most teams, but the awards season is just getting started. Southern’s Roman Banks and North Carolina Central’s Levelle Moton are both up for multiple national awards after leading their team to regular season titles in the SWAC and MEAC, respectively.

Both were announced as nominees for the Ben Jobe National Coach of The Year Award, given by College Insider.com.

The finalists include Tommy Amaker (Harvard), Roman Banks (Southern), Johnny Dawkins (Stanford), Ron Hunter (Georgia State), James Jones (Yale), Mike Jones (Radford), Joe Jones (Boston University), Danny Manning (Tulsa), Cuonzo Martin (Tennessee), Rob Murphy (Eastern Michigan), LeVelle Moton (North Carolina Central), Kevin Ollie (Connecticut), Monte Ross (Delaware), Gary Waters (Cleveland State), Willis Wilson (Texas A&M Corpus Christi).

Banks is also up for the Skip Prosser Award and Moton the Hugh Durham Award.

Banks led Southern to a 19-13 record, including the SWAC regular season title. Moton led NCCU to a 28-6 record, a MEAC title and its first-ever NCAA (D1) Tournament appearance.

Also nominated is Delaware’s Monte Ross, a Winston-Salem State graduate and former guard for Clarence “Big House” Gaines.
